Philosophy Statement
Children learn through play, therefore our philosophy is based on developing the whole child through playful interaction within the environment. Our belief is that each child is unique and develops individually, so therefore our programs are inclusive and support children and families of all abilities. Our teachers work alongside Child Outreach and Early Intervention to ensure all children have a positive start in their early years.
Our programs are learning center based which allows for active, hands on purposeful play in which children learn about themselves, their environment, and others. The learning centers encourage the children to be active learners allowing them to make their own play choices with teacher guidance. The classrooms are arranged to allow the children to move, communicate, and explore. In this environment, children build confidence and strengthen their belief that they are capable learners.
The daily schedules in each room allow for teacher directed and self directed and self directed activities which allow teachers to observe and develop lessons from observations of the children. All classroom teachers, continuously asses the children through pictures, observations, checklists, and child's work samplings guiding teachers to individual lessons for children. A compilation of all assessments are given to parents at the end of the school year during parent teacher conferences.
The Jamestown Early Learning Center follows, Caring for our Children, guidelines because of our strong belief in health and safety of all children and staff.
At the Jamestown Early Learning Center our curriculum is aligned to the Rhode Island Early Learning Center to ensure each child has a high quality early childhood education. Outdoor Play is an important part of our curriculum and the children have access to the outdoor classroom daily.
Our belief is that family engagement is a very important piece of high quality. At the Jamestown Early Learning Center we offer parents opportunities in classroom participation, family fun nights, and we send home family fun activities and family book bags to support family involvement.
